Cattail Creek Maintenance Dredging
Anne Arundel County, Maryland
The Anne Arundel County (County) Department of Public Works has initiated a maintenance dredging project to restore boating access in Cattail Creek. BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc. (BayLand) has been contracted to prepare the permit application. The intention of this project is to restore the County channel of Cattail Creek that has been severely impacted by sedimentation. The construction of the project is scheduled for the winter of 2019/2020.
As part of this project, waterfront property owners and community associations may apply for permits to dredge a spur channel to connect their pier or boat ramp to the County channel. The County provides assistance in applying for Federal and State permits to coordinate simultaneous main channel and spur improvements as required by Federal and State regulatory agencies, to minimize potential environmental impacts from the dredging, and to reduce costs for your permitting and dredging.
We conducted a permit application workshop at Severna Park Elementary School on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. We understand that many of the waterfront properties adjacent to the County channel did not receive our previous letter indicating the time and date of our workshop. If you are one of those properties and are interested in applying for dredging, the application and information needed to complete your application are online via our website. Use the link below to download/view the Cattail Creek Spur Package.
We have extended the deadline for homeowners to apply for a spur channel to December 7, 2018.
Applying for dredging does not guarantee approval and receiving permits to dredge does not obligate you to perform the dredging. If you are interested in a spur channel, providing proof of historic use and previous water depths is necessary. This can be accomplished by providing some of the documentation listed in the Cattail Creek Spur Package, Spur Data Sheet. If you have previous Federal and State approvals for dredging or pier/bulkhead work, please send us copies of any licenses, permits or paperwork you have. These types of old documents will greatly assist in the facilitation of your new application. If you have never completed a spur permit application with BayLand, please fill out as much information as possible in the Cattail Creek Spur Package and give us a call to discuss your spur (410-694-9401). Historical proof of previous dredging or boating activity at your property are useful in facilitating new permits.
Spur applicants are responsible for preparing the Joint Permit Application (JPA). The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) requires a $750 State permit application fee with each application; checks should be made payable to MDE. There is no cost to you for the preparation and acquisition of your permit.
Only once we have received your completed forms along with your $750 check made out to MDE, will we begin drafting up your spur application. If you have questions, please contact Alec Burke, Environmental Scientist (email@example.com) or Chris Rager, Project Scientist (firstname.lastname@example.org) at (410) 694-9401.
