SURVEYOR / INSTRUMENT OPERATOR
BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc. (BayLand) has an immediate opening for a Survey Technician to provide services as an Instrument Operator / Crew Chief to support our in-house survey capabilities for a growing and diverse workload of water resources projects. Experience with using Trimble Robotic Total Station, Trimble GPS, and Trimble Business Center are desired. High school diploma, community college courses/survey classes, and 0-1 years of experience preferred. Will train motivated individual. This position is offering a $1,000 signing bonus to our newest team member!
Responsibilities and Duties

Utilize various electronic and survey equipment to assist in determining location and elevations of various features.

Perform construction stakeout.

Cut and clear brush and trees from line of survey with machete, brush hook or chain saw.

Carry instruments, field equipment, hammers, stakes, nails, etc.

Assist with hydrographic surveys.

Keep survey crew vehicle supplied with equipment; clean and organize vehicle.

Carry out instructions and tasks assigned by Crew Chief.

Ability to work outdoors with occasional extended hours.

Willing to work locally or travel within the state of Maryland.

Compensation Range
$41,600-$54,080 based on qualifications and experience.

CIVIL ENGINEER / SUSTAINABLE SITE DESIGN ENGINEER
BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc. (BayLand) is seeking a Civil/Site Design Engineer with 3 to 5 years’ engineering experience to support a growing workload in a diverse number of water resource and capital improvement projects. These projects include large-scale assessments and master planning for climate change resiliency and design of recreation and park facilities, capital infrastructure improvements, community amenities, and marine facilities projects. This position will support our Stormwater and Sustainable Site Design Practice and help lead project design efforts. Typical duties will include site layout, grading, stormwater management design erosion and sediment control design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling with considerations for climate change resiliency, preparation of reports, plans, and specifications, coordination with reviewers, permit applications and submittal packages.

The ideal candidate will work directly for Project Managers and have primary engineering design, coordination, and review responsibilities for assigned projects. A successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are an organized and motivated individual with strong communication skills; possess an eye for detail; can think critically; can work collaboratively with other team members; and can be responsible for independently completing engineering design tasks with minimal oversight.

The candidate should also be familiar with AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred) and have exposure to hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software. Coursework in hydrology and hydraulics will be considered in lieu of modeling experience.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications

B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university

3+ years of experience

Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT)

Proficient with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D
-
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written with clients, regulators, public officials and team members
-
Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design
-
Knowledge of Maryland drainage manual, stormwater management design guidelines, climate change action plan, and erosion and sediment control methods and practices
-
Strong technical writing skills
-
Proficient with TR-20, HEC-RAS, or other H&H modeling software
-
Ability and desire to participate in field work
Desired Skills
-
P.E. license, or ability to obtain P.E. license within one year
-
Knowledge of survey data collection and processing
-
Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS)
-
Exposure to stream restoration, dredging and/or shoreline protection projects

$75,000-$90,000 based on qualifications and experience.
