Civil Engineer / Water Resources Design Engineer – Entry Level
BayLand is seeking a Civil Engineer / Water Resources Design Engineer with 0 to 2 years engineering experience to support a growing workload in a diverse number of water resource and capital improvement projects. This is a full-time, entry-level position designed for recent graduates or graduating seniors.
The work will focus on water resources including stream and ecological restoration, stormwater management, sustainable site design, and/or marine infrastructure and coastal restoration projects. Typical duties will include hydrologic and hydraulic modeling with considerations for climate change resiliency, field assessments, preparation of reports, plans, and specifications, and erosion and sediment control permitting and design. The successful candidate will work directly for Professional Engineers and Project Managers and will work on exciting and engaging projects of varying size and scope. Tasks assigned to this position are selected to expand engineering experience as rapidly as possible and establish a solid foundation for becoming a Professional Engineer.
The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate they are an organized and motivated individual with strong communication skills; possess an eye for detail; can work collaboratively with other team members; and can become responsible for independently completing assigned engineering design tasks with minimal oversight. They should also be familiar with AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred) to quickly become proficient in preparing civil/site designs and preparation of construction documents. Exposure to hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software is also preferred. Coursework in hydrology and hydraulics will be considered in lieu of modeling experience.
Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university with an expected graduation date of May 2027.

Environmental Scientist
BayLand is seeking a full-time entry-level Environmental Scientist to support a growing workload in a diverse number of water resources, capital improvement and ecological restoration projects.
This position offers a balance of field and office-based work supporting marine, stream/wetland restoration, and stormwater management projects. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Project Scientists, Professional Engineers, and Project Managers to support environmental planning, permitting, data collection, GIS analysis, and technical reporting efforts.
In this role, the Environmental Scientist will participate in a wide range of field investigations including soils and sediment sampling, wetland delineations, submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) surveys, water quality monitoring, natural resource inventories, and other vegetative or habitat assessments. The position requires accurate documentation and management of field data, use of GPS and survey equipment, and the ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
Office responsibilities include processing and organizing field data; preparing spreadsheets, graphs, maps, and technical figures. The candidate will assist in preparing environmental permit applications, regulatory assessments, and draft technical reports, while conducting research and contributing to environmental compliance documentation. The role also involves maintaining organized digital files and records, supporting project teams with coordinated technical and administrative tasks, and demonstrating a willingness to learn AutoCAD and ArcGIS software for processing field data.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geography, Marine Science, or a related field and have 0–1 years of relevant experience, including internships or academic fieldwork. Candidates should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and capable of both independent work and collaborative team engagement. Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in technical writing, are essential. Basic proficiency with ArcGIS and general computer software is expected, and a valid government-issued driver’s license is required.
Minimum Qualifications

0–1 year of relevant professional experience (internships, academic research, and field-based coursework acceptable).

Demonstrated familiarity with plant community surveys, wetland delineations, forest stand delineations, and preparation of related documentation (academic or internship experience acceptable).

Exposure to environmental permitting processes related to stream and ecological restoration, living shoreline, and/or stormwater management projects preferred.

Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and support multiple in-house technical staff across projects.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, regulators, public officials, and team members.

Experience preparing high-quality technical reports, maps, figures, and exhibits.

Working knowledge of ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, or related GIS platforms.

Familiarity with AutoCAD, including Civil 3D, or willingness to develop proficiency.

Surveyor / Instrument Operator
BayLand has an immediate opening for a Survey Technician / Instrument Operator to support our in-house survey capabilities for a growing and diverse workload of water resources projects.
Experience with using Trimble Robotic Total Station, Trimble GPS, and Trimble Business Center is desired. High school diploma, community college courses/survey classes, and 0-1 year of experience preferred. Will train motivated individual. This position is offering a $1,000 signing bonus to our newest team member!
Responsibilities & Duties

Utilize various electronic and survey equipment to assist in determining location and elevations of various features

Perform construction stakeout

Cut and clear brush and trees from line of survey with machete, brush hook or chain saw

Carry instruments, field equipment, hammers, stakes, nails, etc.
