Aerial drone footage of Fort Smallwood Park in northeastern Anne Arundel County where BayLand is working with the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works and Department of Recreation and Parks to design sustainable shoreline protection along nearly a mile of scenic and historic shoreline. Reach 1 will focus to protect, re-nourish and enhance the swim beach. Reach 2 will strengthen wave protection against sea level rise and enhance the appearance of the park point while adding fishing piers for anglers. Reach 3 will vastly improve the transition and natural habitat that will stretch from higher park grounds down to the shoreline. The entire project focuses to improve public access to the land water interface while implementing coastal resiliency practices ; increase a wide variety of natural habitats; and decrease erosion and runoff into Rock Creek, the Patapsco River and the Chesapeake Bay.
The North Branch of Cypress Creek Stream & Ecological Restoration Project was awarded 1st place in 2017 for Best Stream Restoration by the Chesapeake Stormwater Network for the Best Urban BMP in the Bay Award (BUBBA). BayLand was the lead design engineer and provided construction management for this innovative project which included an expansive 2.1-acre in-line stormwater headwater wetland with step pools leading to a stable braided anastomosed channel, and then to a series of nine broad stormwater wetland impoundments fed by five step pool storm conveyance (SPSC) tributary/stormwater drainages, ending in a single channel outfall to tidal waters.
