Notice of Application for State Wetland Licenses, Private Wetland Permits, Nontidal Wetlands and Waterways Permits and/or Water Quality Certification and the Opportunity to Provide Written Comment or Request an Informational Hearing
The Water and Science Administration is reviewing the following application for a State Wetlands License (26-WL-0059). Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works at 2662 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 has applied to dredge a main channel and four residential spur channels in the Upper West River and Johns Creek. The dredged material shall be deposited at one of the three approved upland disposal sites: South County DMP Site at Sudley Road, West River, MD 20778, Idlewilde DMP Site at Idlewilde Road, Shady Side, MD 20764, or Rock Creek Dredge Material Placement (DMP) Site at Water Oak Point Road, Pasadena, MD 21122. Mitigation may be required for impacts to submerged aquatic vegetation and shallow water habitat.
Public Notice Description: 26-WL-0059 / 202660117 – ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS at 2662 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 has applied to mechanically maintenance dredge existing main channels in Upper West River and Johns Creek as follows: Segment A: a 1,322-foot long by 40-foot wide channel to a depth of 4.5 feet at mean low water; Segment B: a 1,692-foot long by 40-foot wide channel to a depth of 5.5 feet at mean low water; Segment C: a 85-foot long by 40-foot wide channel to a depth of 3.5 feet at mean low water; Segment D: a 843-foot long by 40-foot wide channel to a depth of 4.0 feet at mean low water; and to periodically maintenance dredge for 6 years. This project also includes both maintenance and new dredging of four residential spur channels (26-WL-0063, 26-WL-0064, 26-WL-0065, 26-WL-0147) for a total of 11,018 square feet and of various lengths, widths, and depths to match the main channel segment to which they are attached. Approximately 7,414 cubic yards of dredged material will be transported to one of the three following upland disposal sites: South County DMP Site at Sudley Road, West River, MD 20778, Idlewilde DMP Site at Idlewilde Road, Shady Side, MD 20764, or Rock Creek Dredge Material Placement (DMP) Site at Water Oak Point Road, Pasadena, MD 21122. The purpose of the project is to improve navigable access. Mitigation as payment into the Tidal Wetlands Compensation Fund may be required for new impacts to submerged aquatic vegetation and shallow water habitat. The project is located within the tidal waters of Upper West River and Johns Creek in Anne Arundel County, MD.
